With the start of the new year, it’s time to look at some of the 2024 style trends we expect to see in the next 12 months. The new year brings plenty of bits and pieces to examine and a fresh opportunity to revitalize our wardrobe. While style trends will usually be everywhere, it’s important to note that many of these can be added to your closet in small ways, like accessories, handbags, or shoes. There is no need to redo your entire closet for a new trend.
Examining 2024 style trends, there aren’t many fads that will be out-of-the-box but a continuation of 2023 fashion trends we already know and have. Speaking of continuation, you’ll notice that many of these trends will follow the same pattern of ’90s and Y2K fashion, proving that it’s not going anywhere. I’ll leave you plenty of links and examples of the trends to aid in your shopping. You can also follow my Instagram and LikeToKnow. It page for more inspiration.
Biggest 2024 Style Trends to Follow:
It’s no shock that with the Y2K and ’90s revival, metallics are back and bigger than ever. While we’ve seen some metallic details pop up in recent months, like handbags or shoes, 2024 will allow us to bring them back in a bigger way. Instead of small accents, opt for metallic clothing pieces like pants, dresses, or tops. Plenty of party pieces and details are in for 2024, and metallic is one of the easiest ways to incorporate it into our wardrobes. In 2024, we aren’t waiting for a party or event to wear our fun pieces, but rather, we are using them daily to add some fun to our day-to-day wardrobe.
2023 saw the resurgence of girly and feminine aspects, and 2024 will see a continuance of that movement. Details like ribbons, bows, frills, and ruffles are small ways to reclaim your girlhood into your adult fashion sense. Add soft, girly pieces into your wardrobe to give you a childlike sense of whimsy and life into your 2024 wardrobe. Taking 2023’s Barbiecore a step further, expect to see plenty more romantic and feminine details this year and embrace that sense of softness.
While plenty of out-of-the-box 2024 style trends exist, this one is much more mundane and minimalist. Those looking to simplify their wardrobes will be pleased to know that refined basics will still be popular among trendsetters. Things like basic white t-shirts, tapered denim jeans, trousers, and blazers are some items you can pick up and create many outfits this year. Look to create a capsule wardrobe with neutral colors and touches of colors for a well-rounded wardrobe that’ll last you long after 2024.
New Age Prep
On the topic of girly and feminine trends, a similar fashion style is still growing strong. The preppy trend strongly resembles the girly trend but has a more academic touch. Plaids, houndstooth, and wool are just some details we want to look for in 2024 to give you a more preppy touch. Also 2024, we will see many more modern remixes to the preppy trend, much like we saw from Prada and Miu Miu. Modern trends like sheer or cutouts mixed with classic preppy pieces are just some combinations you can expect this year.
Lastly, one of the trends I am most excited about is precisely the opposite of everything we’ve already discussed. Straying from trends and finding your personal style will be big in the 2024 style trends, and it will be much more challenging than it might appear. The convenience of style trends is replicating an entire fashion sense with no work. Finding the style sense you love and embody is a process, but it will be a huge marker for the year. Instead of relying on what influencers and designers put out, more are finding it beneficial to niche down into their mix of styles.
