I will admit, I was a little adamant about the return of the denim midi skirt when it first happened. As a petite woman, anything with the word midi in the title is a cause for concern and usually means it will look too large on me. However, the more I saw everyone wearing it and the different outfits you could create with it, I was convinced. Not only is a denim midi skirt the perfect spring/summer piece, but I can totally see myself wearing it in the fall and winter months.
As someone who isn’t 100% on board with all the Y2K trends, I was really surprised at how much I loved my blue denim midi skirt. It’s such a flattering piece, honestly, I’m still obsessed. I’m already on the lookout for a dark denim midi skirt now to add to my collection. Thankfully for all of us petite gals, there are plenty of petite denim midi skirts that fit us perfectly.

There are plenty of ways to style this piece. However, the main thing to have in mind when styling it is balance. In fashion, balance is all about creating harmony between the top and bottom halves. With the denim midi skirt being slightly more extended towards the bottom, I wanted to make sure to have a more form-fitting top. If you’re reaching for a skirt that’s form-fitting, like a pencil skirt, you want to go the opposite and go for a bulkier top. To finish balancing this look, I went with skinnier boots that weren’t as chunky.
Honestly, if you’re still on the fence about picking up your own skirt, I get it. However, there are so many ways to wear it, I can see this turning into a basic in any wardrobe. If you haven’t found the right one yet, below are some denim skirts in regular and petite sizes for you to take a look at. While you are at it, take a look at some other spring 2023 trends to be on the lookout for right now.
